Snr Commercial Manager (London, GB, EC2R 7BP)

Sizewell C’s business is to design, finance, construct, commission, operate, maintain, and eventually decommission the nuclear power plant and related infrastructure at Sizewell C in Suffolk. Overall, whilst the Company is in the construction phase, the Boards’ principal focus is on the development and construction of Sizewell C on time, on budget and to the highest quality and safety standards. The Company is maturing to meet all these requirements.

Sizewell C is economically regulated by OFGEM under the Regulated Asset Base (RAB) model similar to other UK electricity distribution networks and Thames Tideway.

Sizewell C construction strategy is to replicate the design of Hinkley Point C, using the majority of the same supply chain, but innovating in the way it is delivered to achieve savings in time and cost of around 20%. The CCO will need to be guided by and incorporate lessons learned from the Hinkley Point C commercial delivery to achieve Sizewell C’s ambition.

Following Financial Completion and Revenue Commencement, Sizewell C is fully funded and is owned by; The Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero representing HM Government, La Caisse, Centrica, EDF and Amber Infrastructure.

Senior Commercial Manager - Civil Works Programme

Contract Type: Permanent - Office-based with hybrid flexibility (typically 3 days p/w in the office)

About the Role

Reporting To: Commercial Lead – Civil Works, As Senior Commercial Manager you will support the effective implementation of the Programme Alliance Agreement (PAA) - a multi billion pound, multi‑party alliancing contract - across Sizewell C (SZC) processes, systems and teams.

The role will focus on assisting in the identification and resolution of interface gaps between PAA contractual requirements and SZC functional processes, providing expert advice to Commercial teams and functions, developing contract management guidance, and training, and supporting the use and development of the Unifier contract administration tool.

This role suits a big‑picture thinker—someone who can evaluate options, risks and consequences to shape effective solutions. Working proactively with functions such as design, project controls (cost, programme, risk), delivery, legal, land, consents, environment and sustainability, site operations, health and safety, quality and document control, the Senior Commercial Manager brings clarity, alignment and confident decision‑making to high‑pressure, fast‑moving environments. The role ensures robust governance, identifies gaps in contracts, policies and procedures, and strengthens commercial controls across the programme.

Key Responsibilities

The scope of this role evolves and is guided by the challenges faced by SZC and their contractor teams. Current key responsibilities include assisting the Commercial Lead in the following areas:

PAA Contract Management:

Acting as a subject matter expert on the PAA.
Identifying and resolving gaps between contractual requirements and SZC processes.
Providing practical commercial advice to contractor teams and functions.
Supporting consistent contract administration and governance across the programme.
Promoting dispute avoidance through proactive issue resolution.

Training, Guidance and Capability

Developing training materials, guidance and templates for the use of the PAA.
Producing and supporting roll-out of the Contract Management Manual.
Delivering training and coaching to commercial and functional teams.
Embedding consistent contract management standards across the SZC Civils programme.

Systems and Process Improvement

Supporting the development of the Unifier contract administration platform .
Ensuring commercial processes, controls and workflows are embedded effectively.
Identifying opportunities to improve efficiency, transparency and data quality.

Post-Award Contract Management

Driving supplier performance and commercial governance.
Mitigating risks and resolve commercial issues.
Supporting proactive dispute avoidance.
Providing strategic oversight across the relevant portfolio.

What the candidate will bring

Senior-level experience in commercial or supply chain roles on major infrastructure, energy, nuclear or complex regulated projects.
Strong procurement and post-contract management experience.
Good understanding of dispute avoidance and issue resolution.
Strong knowledge of Alliance, NEC and/or FIDIC contracts.
Experience with alliance or target cost contracts would be advantageous.
Excellent stakeholder management, negotiation and communication skills.
Ability to translate complex contractual requirements into practical guidance and processes.

Education and Professional qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in quantity surveying, civil engineering, law, construction or project management or equivalent.
Professional qualifications such as MCIPS, MRICS, MCIArb, MAPM, MCIOB or equivalent are preferred.

What We're Looking For

Essential

Experience in a Project Management, Assistant Project Management, Project Engineering or Project Controls role within a complex engineering, infrastructure, construction or regulated environment.
Good analytical capability, proficiency using Microsoft Excel and project reporting tools.
Background in Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Process, Systems Engineering or a related project delivery discipline.

Salary: £56,506 - £86,985 depending on experience

The role holder will:

Complete initial training and development in EPR technology, reactor operations, operational standards and instructional techniques to establish and maintain technical credibility as a member of the future Sizewell C operations organisation.
Develop, maintain and continuously improve training programmes, learning materials and assessment arrangements using a Systematic Approach to Training (SAT).
Deliver high-quality classroom, simulator and workplace-based training that supports the development and authorisation of Operations personnel.
Contribute to the establishment of the Sizewell C Operations training framework, ensuring alignment with regulatory, company and industry requirements.
Support the development and implementation of training processes, standards and governance arrangements required for the future operational phase of the station.

As we embark on this significant infrastructure project, which is still in its early stages of development, we are seeking an experienced and driven Electrical Senior Planner to join our team. This is a pivotal role that offers the opportunity to shape the project's future, developing the detail of the MEHA scope.

• Reporting to the Head of Scheduling & Planning, you will play a key role in developing and maintaining the electrical programme across both Phase 1 and Phase 2 of the Alliance delivery strategy. During Phase 1, the focus will be on supporting subcontract delivery, integrating supplier and subcontract schedules, and developing the programme maturity needed to establish a robust project controls baseline. During Phase 2, you will work closely with Project Managers and Construction Leads to develop detailed installation schedules and ensure readiness for successful project execution.

• At this stage of the project, your role will be crucial in developing the electrical detail to underpin a performance management baseline that will support the project through delivery and successful completion. This baseline will serve as the cornerstone for future tracking, forecasting and reporting activities, ensuring the project remains aligned with its objectives as it progresses.

• Working across both client and internal teams, you will collaborate closely with Project Managers, Construction Leads, suppliers and key stakeholders, building strong relationships and ensuring effective integration of the electrical scope into the wider MEH Schedule and Integrated Work Schedule (IWS).

• Your drive for detail will be critical in ensuring the schedule is robust and aligned to best practice, supporting safe, efficient and successful project delivery through innovative thinking, strong stakeholder engagement and collaborative ways of working.

Accountabilities:

Team collaboration:

Engage with a pro-active approach for collating information and communicating key schedule information to relevant stakeholders. Approach and take direct action to set up collaboration sessions to support delivery of the project utilising the schedule as a key driver in delivery success.

Develop and further refine the activity detail with the project managers and subject matter experts to continuously improve the upcoming maturity of the schedule data.

Schedule Management:

Develop, maintain, and update initial project schedules using tools like Primavera or MS Project. Establish the sequencing and tracking methodologies that will guide the project as it progresses.

Support the development and integration of subcontractor and supplier schedules during Phase 1 of the Alliance programme, ensuring alignment with wider project objectives and programme milestones.

Responsibility

Feeding the electrical elements of the schedule in to the overall detailed MEH schedule and mapping back to the Integrated Work Schedule (IWS) , reviewing and integrating supplier information, working with the key stakeholders, communicating key information and flagging successes / risks in period.

Work closely with Project Managers and Construction Leads to develop robust installation schedules and delivery readiness plans, ensuring the electrical scope is fully integrated and prepared for future execution activities.

Drive for success:

Forward planning to highlight any potential risks in a timely manager and drive mitigation sessions with the project managers.

Scenario Schedule planning:

Carry out scenario planning where required to understand adjustment event impacts on key milestones / interfaces or potential opportunities; presenting the information visually for acceptance by the wider team.

P6 skills:

Expert skills within P6 software with displaying the data, adding activities, resources, costs and baselines with the correct calendar to adhere to the procedures in place within the project.

Subject Matter Expert:

Utilise planning experience from other projects and knowledge to challenge and support the scope owner for successful efficient delivery of the scope.

Health and Best Practice:

Ensure a basis of schedule for the electrical scope is defined and bound to support the schedule information and a clear audit trail for applying baselines and monthly progress is thoroughly undertaken with spotlight schedules issued and stored in a shared file for access by the required stakeholders.

Planning Methodology:

Drive the development of schedule information with the adequate level of detail for the phase of the works with rolling wave planning methodology approach. Carry out schedule checks on a periodic basis to ensure the health and robustness of the schedule is maintained.

Wider Understanding of Project Controls:

Understand the risk associated to the scope and how these would map to deliverables; communicate risks to the planning manager to ensure this is captured in the risk documentation. Understand the budget and cost profiles within year, within the current contract.

Reporting:

Produce and feed in to reporting frameworks and generate regular progress reports for stakeholders, detailing key metrics such as in period movement, year to date and potential upcoming risks to schedule. Utilize earned value management (EVM) from the outset to build a strong performance assessment baseline.

Cost and Resource:

Resource load the schedule and produce histograms and resource profiles to support the delivery management. Confident in carrying out resource loading / levelling and reports to communicate profiles to the team.

Quality Control:

Collaborate with quality teams to define early-stage quality standards and control measures, ensuring that as the project progresses, it adheres to the highest standards.

Data Analysis and Forecasting:

Review supplier schedules and feed into the MEHA detail at an appropriate level where required and communicate honestly the impact / forecasting to support mitigation plans and honest, open culture on reporting progress.

Stakeholder Communication:

Establish clear and effective communication channels with all project stakeholders, including clients, contractors, and internal teams, supporting visibility into project performance and alignment with project goals.

Minimum Qualifications/ Experience:

A degree or equivalent with professional work experience in one or more specific disciplines relative to the role profile.
MAPM, P6 Advanced, accreditation.
Extensive experience as a Senior Planning Engineer on large and complex infrastructure projects, with a particular emphasis on projects in their early stages of development.
Experience in the overall project controls integration and how the schedule is vital in delivering success.
In-depth understanding of earned value analysis (EVA) and other key project controls methodologies.
Previous experience in developing detailed schedules and working with a large team of planning engineers with interface schedules.
Strong team skills, with the ability to support newcomers to the team and a positive/ respectful attitude when working alongside others to achieve a common goal.
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with stakeholders at all levels, from graduates to directors.
Strong problem-solving abilities and a track record of delivering solutions in a fast-paced, complex project environment.

Impact:

SZC Project Controls will serve as a centre of excellence, managing and strategically using delivery performance management information. Our team will enable successful delivery of SZC Project through proactive Project Controls that drives forward-looking solutions to continuously improve performance. As a Risk Manager, you will be working within the Project Management Office (PMO) and will support/ be deployed with one of SZC’s delivery programmes.
