Cyber Operations Manager (London, GB, EC2R 7BP)

Sizewell C’s business is to design, finance, construct, commission, operate, maintain, and eventually decommission the nuclear power plant and related infrastructure at Sizewell C in Suffolk. Overall, whilst the Company is in the construction phase, the Boards’ principal focus is on the development and construction of Sizewell C on time, on budget and to the highest quality and safety standards. The Company is maturing to meet all these requirements.

Sizewell C is economically regulated by OFGEM under the Regulated Asset Base (RAB) model similar to other UK electricity distribution networks and Thames Tideway.

Sizewell C construction strategy is to replicate the design of Hinkley Point C, using the majority of the same supply chain, but innovating in the way it is delivered to achieve savings in time and cost of around 20%. The CCO will need to be guided by and incorporate lessons learned from the Hinkley Point C commercial delivery to achieve Sizewell C’s ambition.

Following Financial Completion and Revenue Commencement, Sizewell C is fully funded and is owned by; The Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero representing HM Government, La Caisse, Centrica, EDF and Amber Infrastructure.

We are seeking an experienced Cyber Operations Manager to oversee day-to-day cyber security operations within a highly regulated and safety-critical environment.

You will be responsible for managing security monitoring, threat detection, vulnerability management, incident response coordination, and operational cyber resilience activities across the organisation. Working closely with Cyber Security, Infrastructure, Digital, Operational Technology, and third-party providers, you will ensure that cyber security controls and services operate effectively to protect critical systems and data.

Proven experience managing cyber security operations or security operations teams within large, complex organisations

Role Overview:

Join Sizewell C at a pivotal stage in the development of one of the UK's most significant nuclear infrastructure projects. As a Nuclear Safety Engineer, you will play a key role in establishing the pre-operational nuclear safety group arrangements that will underpin the future safe and reliable operation of the power station.

You will be a key link between the nuclear safety case and the future operator, working with a wide range of stakeholders to ensure the fundamental nuclear safety principles of cooling, controlling and containing the core are upheld. You will also help demonstrate compliance with national and international regulatory requirements.

Reporting to the Nuclear Safety Manager, you will join the Pre-Operations Technical and Safety Support Programme. This programme is responsible for ensuring the future operating organisation has the people, processes, equipment, facilities and documentation needed to operate Sizewell C safely and reliably, in line with all licence, permit, regulatory and statutory requirements.

As the pre-operational programme develops, you will help establish and deliver four key nuclear safety workstreams:

Reactor physics, nuclear fuel and criticality

Safety case and risk

Regulation, legislation and reporting

Operations, engineering and maintenance support

You will specialise in at least one of these areas while developing a strong understanding across the wider function. This will be an opportunity to build technical breadth, contribute to a growing team and help shape the nuclear safety arrangements for a new nuclear power station.

You will work closely with the pre-operations team at Hinkley Point C, building strong relationships and ensuring learning and experience from Hinkley Point C are embedded within Sizewell C. SZC Project Controls will serve as a centre of excellence, managing and strategically using delivery performance management information. Our team will enable successful delivery of SZC Project through proactive Project Controls that drives forward-looking solutions to continuously improve performance. As a Risk Manager, you will be working within the Project Management Office (PMO) and will support/ be deployed with one of SZC’s delivery programmes.

Your role will be to support the operation of all PMO risk processes across SZC, reporting to a Senior Risk Manager. Role Overview:

The Quality Engineer will support the delivery of quality requirements across the full Sizewell C project lifecycle, from design and procurement through to manufacturing, construction, commissioning and handover. Leadership and Accountability

Acts as a subject matter expert in EPR operations, operational standards and operator training.
Shapes the knowledge, skills and behaviours of future Sizewell C operations personnel through training, coaching, mentoring and assessment.
Reinforces high standards of nuclear professionalism, operational discipline and Human Performance across the training environment.
Maintains technical credibility through continued professional development and participation in operational training programmes.
Provides expert advice and guidance on training and competence matters to the Pre-Operations organisation. Based on the existing Operations Instructor role expectations.

Planning and Implementing

Develops, maintains and delivers training programmes, learning materials and assessments in support of the Sizewell C Operations training strategy.
Supports the intelligent replication and adaptation of training products, processes and operational standards from Hinkley Point C and the wider EDF fleet.
Contributes to the development and implementation of training governance, assurance arrangements and competence management processes.
Supports the specification, testing and validation of simulators and other training tools required for operational readiness.
Works with internal and external stakeholders to ensure training programmes align with project milestones and future operational requirements.

Monitoring and Assessing

Evaluates trainee performance against defined competence standards and provides objective feedback to support development and authorisation decisions.
Monitors training effectiveness and identifies opportunities for continuous improvement.
Reviews operating experience, industry learning and organisational learning to identify training implications and performance improvement opportunities.
Supports training audits, reviews and assurance activities as required.

Follow-Up, Reinforcement and Feedback

Encourages a questioning attitude and continual learning culture.
Reinforces expected operational standards, behaviours and nuclear safety culture.
Supports individuals in achieving and maintaining competence through coaching, mentoring and constructive feedback.

Identifies and escalates risks relating to training quality, personnel competence and operational readiness.
Ensures training activities support nuclear safety, licence compliance and future operating standards.
Contributes to the resolution of issues that could affect operator competence or programme delivery.
Supports implementation of corrective actions arising from operating experience, audits and training reviews.

Other

Works closely with colleagues across Sizewell C, Hinkley Point C, EDF, the Nuclear Skills Alliance and the wider EPR community.
Influences operational readiness through the development of the future operating workforce rather than through direct authority.
Contributes to the successful transition from project delivery to safe and reliable station operations.
Supports the development of a long-term capability that will underpin Sizewell C operations throughout commissioning and commercial operation. Based on the role's purpose supporting future operators and operational readiness.

Applicants must have the permanent right to work in the UK and be able to undertake the role without requiring visa sponsorship.
Willingness and ability to undertake an extended training and familiarisation programme at Hinkley Point C before transitioning to Sizewell C.

Sizewell C is economically regulated by OFGEM under the Regulated Asset Base (RAB) model similar to other UK electricity distribution networks and Thames Tideway.

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Security Architect to lead the design and governance of secure technology solutions across the Sizewell C organisation. Working within a highly regulated and safety critical environment, you will ensure that security is embedded into systems, infrastructure, cloud platforms, applications, and operational technology from inception through delivery.

You will collaborate with Cyber Security, Enterprise Architecture, Engineering, Infrastructure, Digital, and third-party suppliers to define security standards, assess risk, and support the delivery of resilient and compliant technology solutions.

About You

Proven experience in a Security Architect or senior cyber security role within large, complex organisations
Extensive knowledge of security architecture frameworks, cloud security principles across Azure and/or AWS, network and infrastructure security, Identity and Access Management (IAM), Zero Trust and secure access models, and security monitoring and threat management technologies.
Experience designing secure enterprise and operational technology environments
Knowledge of cyber security standards and frameworks such as ISO27001, NIST, CIS, or IEC 62443
Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
Ability to balance security, operational, and business requirements
