Managing Legal Counsel - MEH (London, GB, EC2R 7BP)

Sizewell C’s business is to design, finance, construct, commission, operate, maintain, and eventually decommission the nuclear power plant and related infrastructure at Sizewell C in Suffolk. Overall, whilst the Company is in the construction phase, the Boards’ principal focus is on the development and construction of Sizewell C on time, on budget and to the highest quality and safety standards. The Company is maturing to meet all these requirements.

Sizewell C is economically regulated by OFGEM under the RAB model similar to other UK electricity distribution networks and Thames Tideway.

Sizewell C construction strategy is to replicate the design of Hinkley Point C, using the majority of the same supply chain, but innovating in the way it is delivered to achieve savings in time and cost of around 20%. The CCO will need to be guided by and incorporate lessons learned from the Hinkley Point C commercial delivery to achieve Sizewell C’s ambition.

Following Financial Completion and Revenue Commencement, Sizewell C is fully funded and is owned by; The Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero representing HM Government, La Caisse, Centrica, EDF and Amber Infrastructure.

We are seeking an experienced Managing Legal Counsel MEH to join the Sizewell C Legal Team, supporting one of the project’s most critical delivery partnerships MEH Alliance.

The successful candidate will lead on all legal aspects of the MEH Alliance’s establishment, governance, and ongoing operations, ensuring robust contractual, commercial, and regulatory compliance across a complex, multi-party alliance framework.

You will provide strategic and operational legal advice to the MEH Alliance leadership team, working closely with colleagues across Legal, Commercial, Project Controls, and Delivery functions, as well as with alliance partners and senior stakeholders.

About You

A qualified solicitor or barrister (England & Wales) with significant post-qualification experience in construction, engineering, or infrastructure law, ideally gained within major projects environments.

Deep understanding of construction and engineering contracts (NEC, FIDIC, or alliance models).
Proven track record advising on large, complex infrastructure or energy projects.
Strong negotiation and drafting skills with the ability to provide pragmatic, solution-focused advice.
Excellent stakeholder management and influencing skills at senior levels.

We’re looking for a highly capable Legal Counsel to join the Sizewell C Legal Team to support on regulatory matters.

In this key role, you’ll provide expert legal advice and support to Sizewell C in complying with its regulatory, licensing and permitting obligations, including in respect of the nuclear site licence and regulations, HSE law and regulations, environmental permitting, and other regulatory areas, and in complying with SZC’s economic licence under the regulated asset base (RAB) model.

This is a strategic role advising on our critical regulatory obligations. You will advise on matters requiring legal engagement with regulators including the ONR, EA and Ofgem, and you’ll work closely with colleagues in the relevant Sizewell C business teams, as well as with external advisors and government stakeholders, to ensure the project’s regulatory obligations are clearly understood, effectively managed, and consistently met.

About You

You will provide strategic oversight of critical PMO outputs, act as a key interface between Treasury, Finance and PMO functions, and manage engagement with the Independent Technical Assessor to ensure robust assurance. Alongside delivering insight-driven analysis and formal reporting, you will also help build team capability through line management, onboarding support, and the embedding of lessons learned across the organisation.

About You

Strong experience in PMO, project controls, or programme support within large-scale infrastructure or energy projects
Advanced knowledge of project management tools (e.g. Primavera P6, Power BI, Excel, or equivalent systems)
Experience with data modelling, reporting automation, and dashboard creation
Understanding of cost, schedule, and risk integration principles

Reporting to the Internal Audit Manager / Head of Internal Audit, you will deliver audit engagements in line with the IIA’s Global Standards and support the ongoing development of our audit approach as the project evolves.

What You’ll Be Doing

Planning, delivering and reporting on internal audit engagements.
Leading and overseeing outsourced audit teams through all stages of the engagement.
Testing and documenting controls, processes and governance arrangements.
Carrying out interviews with stakeholders to understand and assess business activities.
Producing clear working papers that support audit findings and recommendations.
Proposing practical improvements that strengthen risk management and internal control.
Drafting concise audit reports and presenting these to process owners.
Following up on agreed actions and monitoring progress.
Building strong working relationships with stakeholders across the project.
Supporting risk assessments and contributing to the design of audit methodology.

About You
You’ll bring significant experience in internal or external audit, ideally gained in a large, complex or regulated environment or Internal Control advisory team from well-known accounting firm. You’ll be confident working to professional internal audit standards and able to operate independently while building strong, constructive relationships.

You’ll also have:

Strong working knowledge of corporate governance, risk and internal controls.
Experience leading audit or advisory engagements.

Strong communication skills and confidence influencing at different levels.

The Role

Overview

The ongoing and rapid evolution of the SZC organisation and approaching future milestones mean that the Risk Management team is evolving quickly. In order to provide ongoing assurance to key stakeholders a new Risk Analyst is required.

This new role reports to the Strategic Risk Lead within Sizewell C’s (SZC) Integrated Risk Team and brings a unique opportunity to help engage, develop and implement a Risk Management framework within an exciting and fast-moving environment.

Due to the evolving nature of the organisation the Risk Analyst will be required to investigate, assess and provide informative advice regarding SZC’s Strategic, Portfolio and Corporate risks. Therefore, this role will involve interaction with all seniority levels at the SZC organisation.

The Integrated Risk Team forms part of SZC’s Integrated Assurance Strategy (IAS) and the Integrated Assurance and Approvals Plan (IAAP) and is therefore a key component in our ‘Three Lines of Defence’ (3LoD) Model.

Principal Accountabilities

Help support the establishment of an effective Risk Appetite within the business. Embedding a practical approach to Risk Appetite which influences strategy and operational activities.
Maintain, track and report Key Risk Indicators (KRIs) in line with risk appetite. Established leading and lagging indicators which can effectively demonstrate changing exposures.
Help to populate and manage Risk Registers. Creating live view (within the Risk System) on the risks and controls in place across the business.
Help the risk team to provide regular updates on the risk profile of the business. Ensuring the business has standardised and regular management reports on the risk profile of the business.
Help to organise Deep Dives into requested specific risk topics. Allowing the business to have an enhanced view of new and emerging risks and how these will impact.

Knowledge:

You will have working knowledge of strategic and operational risk management processes, frameworks and practices (e.g. ISO 31000).
