About the Role

If you are looking to kick start a career that is rewarding, where you can really make a difference, then come join our Science and Engineering Graduate Programme. You will work on one of the most exciting and significant sustainable energy projects that our country has ever seen, being at the forefront of the UK’s climate change agenda and energy policy. Sizewell C is a nuclear new build project in Suffolk. When completed, it will provide dependable electricity to 6 million homes for at least 60 years.

The Opportunity

Get ready to launch your Engineering career with our customised 16 month training programme!  You will rotate through exciting placements that are designed to equip you with the skills and knowledge you need to succeed.

You will learn from our experts, gain valuable experience, build your confidence and have the support of a career line manager and placement manager, mentor and buddy throughout your time on the programme.

During your programme, you will be supported with a mentor to begin your accreditation journey towards chartership.  Our scheme is accredited with a number of professional institutions, and we’ll support you to gain chartership with the relevant professional body:

  • Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET)

  • Institute of Mathematics and its Applications (IMA)

  • Institute of Physics (IoP)

  • The Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE)

  • The Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE)

  • Institute for Environmental Management & Assessment (IEMA)

  • Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE)

  • The Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC)

  • Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (IoM)

We offer a great work / life balance to support people’s personal lives whilst giving them the opportunity to network and learn.

What You Will Be Doing:

As a Science & Engineering Graduate at Sizewell C, you will gain hands-on experience, develop technical and professional skills, and contribute to meaningful projects that support the UK’s journey to net zero.

Reporting to the Nuclear Safety Manager, you will join the Pre-Operations Technical and Safety Support Programme. This programme is responsible for ensuring the future operating organisation has the people, processes, equipment, facilities and documentation needed to operate Sizewell C safely and reliably, in line with all licence, permit, regulatory and statutory requirements.

You will work with a wide range of stakeholders to help build and establish one or more of the following key workstreams:

  • Reactor physics, nuclear fuel and criticality

  • Safety case and risk

  • Regulation, legislation and reporting

  • Operations, engineering and maintenance support

You will specialise in at least one of these areas while developing a strong understanding across the wider function. This will be an opportunity to build technical breadth, contribute to a growing team and help shape the nuclear safety arrangements for a new nuclear power station.

Previous graduates have gone on to become: Technical Managers, Senior Leaders and Heads of Function.

Your Work Location

Whilst you will be based at Gloucester office with placements of 3– 6 months, you may also be required to travel to another location for your placements, to support other business units and to expand your knowledge and experience of the Nuclear Industry.

Who You Are

To be eligible for this Sizewell C graduate programme, you need to have achieved, or be expecting to achieve, a Bachelor’s or Postgraduate degree (2:2 or higher) in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a Science based degree.

We are looking for people with a genuine interest in nuclear energy, strong communication and organisational skills, and a passion for solving technical problems. You will need to have an ability to meet deadlines in a time critical environment and have collaborative skills and able to work well as part of a team.

Power in Diversity

Sizewell C is a great place to work. Our ambition is to have a workforce which reflects and benefits the society we are part of and serve. Everyone working at Sizewell C, wherever they are, should help to create and experience the right environment where everyone on the team understands, respects and embraces diversity with a culture where everyone is treated with equal respect and are all given equal access to opportunities. By valuing the different points of view and experiences that having a diverse team brings, and by fostering an inclusive climate, we will create a great place to work. This aligns to our key values:

Be Your Best - Mastery, learning and standards

  • We grow expertise and share knowledge across the programme

  • We uphold standards as a collective commitment, not a compliance exercise

  • We learn from near misses and mistakes and apply those lessons

  • We take quality seriously, even when pace and pressure increase

Be True - Truth, courage and stewardship

  • We surface risks early, including those that are difficult to raise

  • We name trade-offs openly rather than smoothing them over

  • We treat bad news as valuable information

  • We make decisions based on long term stewardship, not short-term convenience

Be Together - Partnership, fairness and share ownership

  • We listen in ways that lead to visible change

  • We hold accountability fairly and consistently

  • We include others early, before decisions are made

  • We solve problems collectively across boundaries

Pay, Benefits and Culture

Alongside a starting salary of £37,500 per annum, potential for an annual bonus, and a market-leading pension scheme, your package will include customisable benefits such as electric vehicle leasing, discounted gym membership, life assurance, tech vouchers, experience days and more.

Please note that we may close this advert early if we receive a high number of applications. We encourage you to submit your application as soon as possible to avoid missing out.

#EarlyCareers

When joining Sizewell C, you may wonder why you are contacted by colleagues with an EDF email or see the EDF logo on portals that you access and/or documentation you receive; this is because we have partnered with EDF for the provision of a number of support services whilst we complete a successful transition out of the EDF group.

At Sizewell C we encourage and embrace diversity and how it can improve our experience and performance at work. It is a requirement that those who join us have the right to work in the UK. Whilst sponsorship may be a possibility that we can explore, we are fully committed to local recruitment where possible, and those already holding the right to work in the UK.

To be appointed to this role, you will need to meet the criteria for Security Vetting, which will, ordinarily, require you to have been a resident of the UK for at least three of the past five years.
