Construction and Logistics Lead
Sizewell C’s business is to design, finance, construct, commission, operate, maintain, and eventually decommission the nuclear power plant and related infrastructure at Sizewell C in Suffolk. Overall, whilst the Company is in the construction phase, the Boards’ principal focus is on the development and construction of Sizewell C on time, on budget and to the highest quality and safety standards. The Company is maturing to meet all these requirements.
Sizewell C is economically regulated by OFGEM under the Regulated Asset Base (RAB) model similar to other UK electricity distribution networks and Thames Tideway.
Sizewell C construction strategy is to replicate the design of Hinkley Point C, using the majority of the same supply chain, but innovating in the way it is delivered to achieve savings in time and cost of around 20%. The CCO will need to be guided by and incorporate lessons learned from the Hinkley Point C commercial delivery to achieve Sizewell C’s ambition.
Following Financial Completion and Revenue Commencement, Sizewell C is fully funded and is owned by; The Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero representing HM Government, La Caisse, Centrica, EDF and Amber Infrastructure.

MCW Construction and Logistics Lead
Contract Type: Permanent - Office-based with hybrid flexibility (typically 3 days p/w in the office)
Working Pattern: Full time

The Sizewell C Project Civil Works Programme (CWP), Main Civil Works (MCW) Project requires an experienced Construction and Logistics Lead to drive the delivery of construction and logistics for the Civil Works programme Main Civils Works Project, working in close collaboration with the Civil Works Alliance (CWA) and Site Operation teams.
The Construction and Logistics Lead primary responsibilities include:
- Establishing the facilities, processes and arrangements to support construction within the Temporary and Main Construction Areas (TCA/ MCA)
- The development and systemisation of working arrangements to create ‘Best For Project’ ways of delivering the works.
- Oversight and Assurance of CWA principal construction delivery strategies.
Job Purpose
The main responsibilities will include:
- Defining the interface between the Sizewell Site Delivery team and the CWA so that there is a clear understanding of who does what for the project. This will include the arrangements for handing over of the ACA & TCA between the parties.
- Understanding the requirements for the whole of the project to define and establish the logistics team services.
- Providing expertise in construction and logistics management, drawn from best practice in the industry to optimise construction of the works. Learning from HPC and HS2 are both key inputs to the management of Sizewell.

- Co-ordination with the Sizewell Site Delivery team relating to:
- How people get to work
- The office and operative accommodation within the site
- Security arrangements for the project and working areas
- The traffic management arrangements around the project
- Communicates the capability of the logistics function within the project team
- Manage the Budget and Schedule for the Logistics Function to include staff, premises, services and methodology.
The Civil Works Programme is responsible for delivering:
- Enabling and Earthworks: sea defences, access facilities, civil engineering work to support site establishment, diaphragm walling around the nuclear plant footprint, dewatering, excavation and earthworks.
- Tunnelling and Marine: beach landing facility, jetty, shafts and intake and outfall tunnels for the nuclear plant cooling systems.
- Main Civil Works: technical galleries, cooling system pipework, foundation base slab and over 70 large buildings for the nuclear plant.
To successfully deliver the Programme requires excellent coordination and integration with the Site Establishment, Site Operations, and Mechanical / Electrical / Heating (MEH) Alliance.
The execution strategy involves:
- Maximising replication of HPC design to limit the extent of First of a Kind design to site-specific elements.
- Introduction and establishment of a programme management structure.
- Using learning from the HPC project to optimise and simplify working practices and processes to maximise site productivity.
- Intelligent replication of the HPC supply chain.
- Joint commitment to truly collaborative working, and an Alliance delivery and commercial model that enables this.
Principal Accountabilities, Activities and Decisions
- Own, maintain and drive the integrated Logistics execution plan setting out how the programme of work will be managed, organised and executed.
- Interface and coordinate with SZC Site Delivery Organisation Pre-Construction Function with the CWA to ensure advanced planning/ phasing of the works meet the programme requirements
- As a defined Nuclear Baseline role will be responsible for Intelligent Customer decision making and control accountabilities, as PM, IC and Nuclear Practitioner.
- Ensure the schedule is developed and maintained on their scope and consistent with the overall Project schedule. Escalating any threats and issues to the SZC CWP Client/ Owner Programme Manager.
- Secure the required resources to meet their project requirements, ensuring the maintenance of SQEP and promptly identifying any personnel shortfalls or issues within their project team
- Monitor and manage the progress of the programme – track progress against milestones, deadlines, budget and provide key stakeholders with reports on these matters.
- Anticipate, manage and resolve issues within the scope of works. Identify risks and facilitate the resolution of all issues raised, develop and update the programme budget, and timely escalation of issues and challenges to SZC CWP Client/ Owner Programme Manager.
- Maintaining effective communications with all stakeholders and execute the project or delivery strategies within their scope of work.
- Operate as the key point of contact for CWA logistics and construction methods packs.
- Ensure that lessons-learnt and knowledge-capture are practiced as business as usual.
- Interface with other SZC Programmes to ensure a high-level view of how the total project is progressing
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with all project team members.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant SZC processes and procedures as detailed in the Integrated Management System.
Dimensions
- This is a key role within the SZC CWP organisation and is responsible for the oversight of the logistics execution strategy and delivery of the associated Civil Works
- The role is responsible for assuring integration of relevant learning from HPC and other industry best practices to assist definition of the optimised delivery construction and logistics in the MCW Project.
- This role will manage the interfaces with and work closely with the other Programmes for the delivery of the SZC schedule.
- Delegate authority consistent with the management of the major work packages associated with the assigned programme to ensure best for project decisions.
- Management of multi-level stakeholders and relationships with a range of internal/ external stakeholders and organisations.
Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications & Experience
- Track record of delivering projects within a technically complex and dynamic environment whilst ensuring high levels of safety, security, and environmental responsibility, ideally within the Nuclear Energy sector or similar regulated environment.
- Demonstrate success in managing / developing:
- Procurement and management of complex commercial arrangements
- Multi-discipline EPCM projects
- Extensive experience in heavy civil engineering means and methods including but not limited to:
- Lifting Strategies
- Industrialised Delivery/ Production Systems Engineering
- Formwork and Falsework Systems
- Precast Construction and other Modern Methods Of Construction (MMC)
- Complex Temporary Works solutions
- Mega Project Logistics Strategies and Practices including but not limited to:
- Materials Management
- Offsite Manufacturing/ prefabrication
- Employee Relations and Labour Strategies
- Advanced Work Packaging processes and procedures
- Experience of managing / influencing contractors, consultants and other advisors throughout large and complex construction projects.
- Control of costs, risk, schedule and change.
- Experience of successfully engaging groups of stakeholders.
- Experience of working within Alliances and Joint Ventures
- Good presentation, influencing and facilitation skills. Excellent communication and organisational skills, able to develop relationships and maintain effective networks.
- Strong numerical and analytical skills.
- Degree and/or chartered status in an engineering, construction, project management or other related field.
- Good knowledge and experience of CDM Regulations.
- Knowledge and / or practitioner of Project Management with experience of applying either; APM body of knowledge and OGC's Prince 2.
- Can demonstrate experience of managing project through the project lifecycle from concept to handover
- Understanding the needs of nuclear quality and how nuclear quality is assured and controlled.
