Sizewell C is entering an exciting phase of growth as we mature into an independent organisation and continue building one of the UK’s largest and most important energy projects. We are now recruiting the below position:

Position: Radiological Environment Specialist

Location: London or Bristol preferred. Manchester can be considered. Hybrid working with a minimum of 2 days per week in the office.

Contract: Permanent, full-time

Salary: Starting from £54,000 depending on experience, plus benefits 

Benefits include: 

• Annual Leave: 28 days per annum, increasing to 30 days after 5 years of service, plus bank holidays
• Bonus: 5% annual bonus

About the Role:

As a Radiological Environment Specialist, you will provide technical, administrative and coordination support for radiological environmental permitting activities, helping to deliver environmental compliance across the project.

The role supports the development and maintenance of environmental case documentation, environmental permitting activities and design assurance programmes. You will provide input to technical workstreams, including design surveillance and assurance, while ensuring environmental requirements are clearly communicated.

You will support the maintenance of the environmental case through document updates, change tracking and impact assessments, while maintaining robust document control and compliance records.

Working closely with internal teams, the responsible designer and external partners, you will support coordination across key interfaces and contribute to regulatory engagement activities. The role also supports governance processes through the organisation of meetings, preparation of minutes and effective coordination of environmental permitting activities.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide technical advice on radioactive discharges, radioactive waste management and environmental protection to support compliance with the RSR (Radioactive Substances Regulation) Environmental Permit.
• Support the application and demonstration of Best Available Techniques (BAT) across design, procurement, commissioning and future operational arrangements.
• Contribute to environmental permitting activities, including permit compliance, regulatory submissions and engagement with regulators.
• Support the substantiation and compliance of Environmental Protection Equipment (EPE).
• Assess the environmental impact of design changes and non-conformances, ensuring compliance and high standards of environmental protection.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including the Responsible Designer, Pre-Operations and supply chain partners, to ensure environmental requirements are effectively integrated.
• Support engagement with the Environment Agency and other regulators, including inspections, submissions and issue resolution activities.
• Support environmental design assurance activities, including the assessment of significant design changes.
• Support the coordination and ongoing maintenance of the Sizewell C Corporate Radioactive Waste Adviser (CRWA) Body, ensuring compliance with the SZC RSR Environmental Permit.
• Support the Safety, security and Assurance environment Team and CRWA Body within company forums and cross-functional meetings.

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong organisational and coordination skills, including experience working with internal and external stakeholders.
• Effective written, verbal and presentation communication skills.
• Technical report writing skills with strong attention to detail.

Desirable

• Knowledge of environmental legislation, regulations and permitting requirements applicable to nuclear facilities.
• Understanding of radioactive waste management system design and operation.

Qualifications & Experience

• Degree qualification, or equivalent, in a relevant STEM discipline.

Desirable

• Experience engaging with nuclear regulators or external stakeholders.
• Professional accreditation, or working towards accreditation, such as Radioactive Waste Adviser (RWA) or Chartered status.
